Tax hikes included in proposed school budgets

A look at two local school district budgets:

Greenwood

The Greenwood School Board approved a preliminary 2026-27 operating budget during its May 14 meeting.

With the preliminary budget of $19,457,407, members amended the proposal to reduce the proposed tax increase from the originally recommended 4 percent in Perry County and 3.12 percent in Juniata County. Instead, the board approved a 2 percent increase for Perry County taxpayers and a 1.13 percent increase for Juniata County taxpayers. District officials said the change increases the projected deficit to roughly $350,000, which would need to be addressed through reserve funds or future budget adjustments.

Prior to the vote, district officials discussed complications tied to the reassessment process and revised county data. Officials said Perry County initially provided inaccurate assessment figures due to problems with a new reporting system that excluded appealed reassessments and other changes. Corrected figures were ultimately incorporated before the district finalized its preliminary budget calculations…
