Employees at a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation office in Harrisburg have reported a months-long rodent problem, stair treads held together with duct tape, and weakened flooring that poses tripping hazards, according to a source who contacted Broad + Liberty.
A Right-to-Know request then unearthed emails validating substantial portions of the source’s claims on the rodent issue.
“The issue with mice infestation MUST be addressed immediately please. We are having major issues with mice running across our desk on the 1st floor behind the customer service counter,” a PennDOT employee said in an email to supervisors on February 17, 2026. “These are horrible conditions to have to work at your desk continuously worried if mice are going to appear in your workstation or work area. This issue has been going on for a while even though mice/rat traps were placed around the 1st floor area, but it seems as if they are multiplying in numbers.”…
