Fatal Crash on Cape Horn Road Renews Calls for a Lower Speed Limit in York Township

YORK TOWNSHIP, PA — A deadly crash on Cape Horn Road in York Township on Friday morning has put fresh attention on a longtime complaint from nearby residents: they say cars are moving too fast on a road that already feels crowded and risky.

The wreck happened on Cape Horn Road, also known as Route 24, near Woodridge Road. Police said two cars hit head-on, leaving both vehicles badly damaged. Two people were taken to the hospital, and officials said the coroner was called to the scene.

Neighbors say the road is too fast for the area

People who live along the stretch say the current 45 mph limit does not fit the setting. The speed drops to 25 mph farther down the road, and residents believe the higher limit should be reduced closer to homes and businesses.

Randal Hangst, who has lived nearby for nearly 50 years, said crashes are not unusual there. He said he and his wife reached out to state Rep. Wendy Fink last year to ask for help getting the limit lowered in front of their house.
