Central Pennsylvania police department says scammers are targeting inmate’s families

NEW CUMBERLAND, Pa. (WHTM) – A local police department says scammers are targeting the families of inmates, claiming their loved ones can be released from jail if their family makes an immediate payment.

The New Cumberland Borough Police Department says the scammers are posing as police, sheriff’s deputies, court officials, or electronic monitoring vendors. The scam promises the family member’s release from incarceration with an ankle monitor if the family member pays a fee immediately.
