A Harrisburg man earlier this month learned his fate for stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of materials from a city church, leaving the building uninhabitable days before Easter Sunday services.
Nathan Johnson, 48, pleaded guilty in August to burglary, theft by unlawful taking, criminal mischief, institutional vandalism of a place of worship and theft of secondary metal.
The charges stemmed from an April break-in at Bethel AME Church on the 1700 block of North Fifth Street where police say Johnson and another man, Jeffrey Youngblood, stole copper pipes, HVAC equipment, a water pump and microwaves, leaving the church without water, electricity, or air conditioning. The thefts forced the church to rearrange its Easter Sunday worship services…
