Arrest made in 34-year-old California murder cold case following DNA ‘breakthrough’

(KTLA) — After 34 years, authorities have made an arrest in the kidnapping and murder of Cindy Wanner, who was abducted from a home in Granite Bay, Calif. in 1991.

The suspect, 64-year-old James Lawhead Jr., was arrested in Bullhead City, Ariz. on April 24, after the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Cold Case Unit made a breakthrough in the case using DNA testing.

“After numerous items were submitted for testing over the years without results, detectives submitted a final piece of evidence to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Lab, where advanced DNA analysis identified Lawhead as the suspect,” the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said…
