- ‘Arrogant’ Tom Hardy ‘swaggered around like King’ on MobLand set upsetting ‘disciplined’ Helen Mirren (themirror.com)
Tom Hardy has reportedly been dismissed from the Paramount+ crime drama MobLand following on-set tensions with co-star Helen Mirren and the show’s producers.
The 48-year-old actor, who played Harry Da Souza, a fixer for a London crime family, appeared in two seasons before his exit. Sources close to the production say Hardy’s behavior, including arriving late, giving unsolicited script notes, and frequently using his phone during filming, frustrated the cast and crew-particularly Oscar-winning actress Helen Mirren, who portrays Maeve Harrigan.
An insider revealed that Mirren, known for her professionalism and high standards, was increasingly irritated by Hardy’s conduct, describing him as “swaggering around like a king” and displaying arrogance behind the scenes. While Hardy’s character is calm and collected on screen, the source noted the opposite was true off camera, with Mirren remaining a “joy” and a consummate pro.
Tensions reportedly escalated as Hardy expressed dissatisfaction with the show’s creative direction in its second season, complaining that focus shifted too heavily onto co-stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. These disputes allegedly led to producer Jez Butterworth threatening to leave the series if Hardy remained, prompting Paramount to terminate Hardy’s involvement.
MobLand, created by Ronan Bennett, explores the violent world of intergenerational mob families vying for control in London. Although season two wrapped production in March, no release date or confirmation of a third season has been announced.
Representatives for Hardy and Mirren have yet to comment on the situation.
