Television journalist Savannah Guthrie recently contacted police after learning that a YouTube creator was livestreaming outside her mother’s Arizona home, according to official records reviewed by TMZ.
On June 11, Savannah alerted authorities that a content creator known as Criminal Network was broadcasting live video from a vehicle parked in front of Nancy Guthrie’s residence. Nancy, Savannah’s mother, was abducted from her home earlier this year in an unresolved case.
Investigators identified the streamer as Alex Zabel, linking him to previous activity around the property. This development comes shortly after Savannah tearfully appealed on-air this week for an end to the family’s ongoing anguish.
Police documents indicate Savannah is one of the individuals responsible for the home and has been contending with a surge of online true crime creators, including Zabel. She reportedly became “extremely upset” upon discovering he had returned to the area.
Since the kidnapping, Savannah has raised multiple concerns about the behavior of various internet content producers targeting the family. She expressed worries for her own safety and that of her relatives, citing the actions of these streamers.
Though she could not specify what Zabel was broadcasting during the livestream, officers noted that his mere presence near the home caused her significant distress.
The complaint was forwarded to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department Patrol Division, where deputies were already responding to a related call at the same location. Savannah was informed that officers were en route and thanked them for their prompt response. It remains unclear what further steps, if any, were taken by law enforcement.
Nancy Guthrie, 84 at the time, disappeared from her home months ago. Following her abduction, several ransom notes were sent to news outlets. Initial demands called for a multimillion-dollar bitcoin payment in exchange for her release, while later messages claimed she had died shortly after being taken and was buried in a remote area.
The Pima County Sheriff’s Department describes the investigation as “active and ongoing.” The Guthrie family continues to offer a $1 million reward for information that leads to answers about Nancy’s whereabouts.
Savannah Guthrie, a co-anchor on NBC’s Today show, has not made any public statements beyond the details noted in the police records.
