LOS ANGELES – Comedian and digital creator Druski is set to make history as the youngest-ever host of the BET Awards this Sunday. At 31, he will surpass Kevin Hart, who held the record when he hosted in 2011.

The ceremony will be broadcast live from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. EDT.

This year’s show will honor legendary artists Lauryn Hill and Teyana Taylor, while featuring performances from a star-studded lineup including Cardi B, Doechii, Queen Latifah, Common, Jill Scott, and more. Hip-hop pioneer MC Lyte will return as the show’s announcer.

Cardi B leads the nominations with six, followed closely by Kendrick Lamar and Mariah the Scientist with five each. Doechii, Doja Cat, Clipse, Teyana Taylor, Olivia Dean, and Latto each earned four nominations.

The Album of the Year category features a diverse slate including Cardi B’s “Am I the Drama?,” J. Cole’s “The Fall-Off,” Tyler, the Creator’s “Don’t Tap the Glass,” and Bruno Mars’ “The Romantic.”

Among the contenders for Song of the Year are Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther,” Doechii’s “Denial Is a River,” and Mariah the Scientist’s “Burning Blue.”

Druski, known for his quick wit and viral comedy sketches, has rapidly risen in the entertainment world with sold-out tours and collaborations with artists like Drake and Snoop Dogg. Reflecting on hosting the BET Awards, he said, “I grew up watching the BET Awards.

To know the comedic legends that hosted before me set the bar so high, I’m just grateful to be a part of the history. But I’m still bringing my brand of comedy to the stage.”

Special honors this year recognize music icons who have profoundly influenced culture. Lauryn Hill will receive the Living Legend Icon Award for her enduring impact, highlighted by her groundbreaking solo debut, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.”

Teyana Taylor is set to receive the Icon of the Year Award, celebrating her multifaceted career as a recording artist, actor, director, producer, and choreographer. Music executive Sylvia Rhone will be honored with the Ultimate Icon Award for her trailblazing leadership as the first Black woman to head a major record company owned by a Fortune 500 corporation and her role in shaping the careers of numerous top artists.

The awards will also spotlight emerging talent and cultural contributions with categories such as the Pulse Award for creators and content series, and the Fashion Vanguard Award recognizing significant influence in fashion.

The BET Awards promise an evening of celebration, unforgettable performances, and historic moments as Druski takes the stage as the youngest host in the event’s history.
