Concerns about former President Donald Trump’s health have resurfaced following his return to the White House, as highlighted in a new book by New York Times journalists Maggie Haberman and Jonathan Swan.
During a live broadcast on CNN, anchor John Berman spoke with Haberman and Swan about their book, Regime Change: Inside the Imperial Presidency of Donald Trump. Berman expressed surprise about reports of Trump’s hearing difficulties, to which Haberman responded that while aides are aware of his advancing age, the exact details of his health remain somewhat mysterious.
She noted, “He is moving differently. He has swelling in his ankles, which he is very sensitive about.
His hearing is also an issue, and it becomes harder to conceal as he gets older.”
The book reveals that Trump grew frustrated with media coverage of his “cankles,” prompting him to instruct his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, to address the topic publicly. Medical professionals have linked his ankle swelling to chronic venous insufficiency.
Trump, who recently celebrated his 80th birthday, has faced increasing scrutiny regarding both his physical and mental fitness during his current term. In response, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle defended the president’s condition, stating, “President Trump’s sharpness, unmatched energy, and historic accessibility stand in stark contrast to what we saw during the last administration when Democrats and the legacy media intentionally covered up Joe Biden’s serious mental and physical decline.”
Ingle emphasized that Trump “is the sharpest and most accessible President in American history, working nonstop to solve problems and deliver on his promises.”
This discussion about Trump’s health follows a tense exchange with a journalist on June 18, in which Trump asserted, “I know what’s going on a hell of a lot better than you do,” during a live Q&A. This confrontation came just one day after Trump’s speech at the G7 summit in France was widely described as “strange” and “rambling.”
Separately, an unsettling discovery at the bottom of the Washington DC Reflecting Pool has recently drawn attention, adding to the complex narrative surrounding the former president.
