Brandon Aiyuk Blasts 49ers Coach in Fiery New Video

The ongoing tension between wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the San Francisco 49ers has escalated, with Aiyuk publicly criticizing the team’s general manager and head coach in a recent video.

Aiyuk, who has been vocal on social media about his dissatisfaction with his situation in San Francisco, released what may be his most pointed critique yet. In the video, he disparaged coach Kyle Shanahan, describing him as having “the temperament of a toddler,” despite Shanahan’s reputation as one of the NFL’s top coaches.

“We is not cool,” Aiyuk stated regarding his relationship with the 49ers. “We won’t be cool and I will never be stepping in that building except on Oct. 19.”

The significance of October 19 is tied to Aiyuk’s clear preference to play for the Washington Commanders. He shares a college connection with Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels-they were teammates at Arizona State and remain close friends.

In the video, which he posted on YouTube, Aiyuk also revealed he has fired his agent, who had also represented 49ers GM John Lynch, though Aiyuk did not explicitly name Lynch.

Adding fuel to the fire, Aiyuk alleged that Lynch showed up unannounced at his home-a claim supported by security camera footage, which he described as showing “a big old white boy. White man.

Former NFL safety.” Again, Lynch’s name was not directly mentioned.

Aiyuk has openly expressed his desire to join the Commanders, recently posting on Instagram: “Go Commanders! Raise Hail!

Take Command!” Despite his clear intentions, a move to Washington remains uncertain.

The receiver has demanded the 49ers release him, a move that seems likely given the circumstances. However, the team has resisted, even after voiding the remaining guaranteed money on Aiyuk’s four-year, $120 million contract extension. This decision followed his absence from rehabilitation sessions for significant knee injuries sustained during the 2024 season, including tears to his ACL, MCL, and meniscus.

“If I’m crazy or if I’m cappin’, tell them boys cut me today and I’ll sign with the Commanders tomorrow. We’ll see who’s cappin’,” Aiyuk said in another video.

The situation is complicated by procedural factors. The 49ers placed Aiyuk on the Reserve/Left Squad list in December after he failed to report for rehab. To be reinstated, Aiyuk must submit the proper paperwork, and the team is not required to release him until that happens.

His decision to fire agent Ryan Williams of Athletes First may further complicate his status in the league.

Earlier this month, Aiyuk criticized the 49ers for their handling of his contract extension, calling the organization “dumb” and “stupid.” He also suggested the team fears releasing him because of how he might perform with another team.

Before his injury in 2024, Aiyuk had recorded 24 receptions for 374 yards. His breakout 2023 season included 75 catches for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, contributing significantly to the 49ers’ journey to the Super Bowl.
