Prince William shared a playful remark about the United States celebrating its 250th anniversary.
The 44-year-old royal appeared as a special guest on the podcast New Heights, hosted by brothers Travis and Jason Kelce, on July 3. The episode had a World Cup theme, focusing primarily on soccer, but also touched on American football.
During the conversation, William expressed his enthusiasm for Aston Villa F.C., discussed England’s prospects in the World Cup, and noted the NFL’s expanding international appeal. The hosts also brought up America’s milestone birthday on July 4, coinciding with Travis Kelce’s wedding to Taylor Swift at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
When Jason Kelce asked William whether he was surprised that America had made it to 250 years, Travis laughed, prompting William to reply with a cheeky, “There were times. There were times,” before all three shared a laugh.
Following the lighthearted exchange, Prince William offered a more thoughtful reflection on the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. “But I’d like to think the U.K. and the U.S. have been together for those 250 years,” he said.
“It’s a good brotherhood.” Jason agreed, affirming the strong bond between the two nations.
The podcast aired on July 3, building excitement around Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s wedding, which had been rumored for weeks to take place at Madison Square Garden.
When asked earlier this year if he had received an invitation to the wedding, William responded, “No comment. I’m hoping, and I’m sure there might be an invitation around, but we’ll see.” However, sources from Kensington Palace have since confirmed that William and Kate Middleton will remain in the UK and will not attend the ceremony.
In June, William celebrated his 42nd birthday by attending the opening night of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour residency at London’s Wembley Stadium with his children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte. Fans captured William singing along to “Shake It Off,” and Taylor shared a photo of the royal family on social media.
William and Swift’s acquaintance dates back to 2013 when they met at the Winter Whites Gala supporting Centrepoint. On that occasion, they joined Jon Bon Jovi on stage to perform his hit “Livin’ on a Prayer,” marking the start of their friendly connection.
