Fathers Threatening Emails Preceded Tragic Murder of His Two Sons in Canada

A tragic incident unfolded in the Kemptville area of Ottawa, where a father allegedly killed his two young sons before taking his own life. Mohammad Al-Lami, 40, reportedly sent threatening emails to his ex-wife while on probation, warning that he would “kill everyone around” her and leave her “disabled in a wheelchair.”

Ottawa police responded to a wellness check at the family home on Monday evening and found the bodies of two boys, ages 7 and 12. The mother testified that Al-Lami had escalated his threats in recent months, particularly after he stopped paying child support.

In one email obtained by CBC News, he wrote, “I will kill everyone around you and your pimp … in a very wild and savage way. I won’t kill you.

I will leave you alone, disabled in a wheelchair that you can’t move, even to visit your loved ones’ graves.” He also threatened to make her a “worldwide story” as an example of what he called an unfair justice system.

Court records reveal that Al-Lami had declined a rare chance to resolve threatening charges against him in 2024, a decision described by the presiding judge as highly unusual. Despite the Crown’s request for stricter measures, including domestic violence intervention and DNA sampling, Al-Lami was ultimately granted a conditional discharge with 12 months probation.

The mother expressed her fear and uncertainty leading up to the incident, saying she alerted authorities after receiving the threatening messages. “I just didn’t want to live with the unpredictability,” she testified.

Further complicating the case, Al-Lami’s first lawyer withdrew in late 2025, citing threats from his client, while Al-Lami claimed he was pressured into accepting a peace bond.

Experts on domestic violence noted Al-Lami’s behavior as a clear sign of “externalizing responsibility,” which often signals intimate partner violence.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, investigators discovered a lengthy handwritten note at Al-Lami’s home blaming his ex-wife, the family court, and the justice system for his situation, naming several individuals he accused of corruption. Authorities also linked him to a fire at the dental office where he worked in Iroquois, Ontario.

This devastating case highlights ongoing concerns about the intersection of domestic violence, legal systems, and the safety of vulnerable family members. Police continue their investigation into the full circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking event.
