Man Throws Molotov Cocktail at Wheelchair User Near Oklahoma City Police Headquarters

An Oklahoma City man was arrested shortly after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at a man in a wheelchair near the city’s police headquarters, according to authorities.

Surveillance footage captured the incident around 8 a.m. on July 2. The video shows the wheelchair-bound victim crossing a street diagonally outside the police headquarters when another man crosses the street, then turns back and approaches him. The suspect appears to ignite an object before hurling the incendiary device at the man in the wheelchair.

After the Molotov cocktail landed, flames briefly surrounded the victim. The suspect then pushed the wheelchair as a passing vehicle stopped nearby.

Two individuals exited the vehicle, and along with an Oklahoma City police detective and a bystander, they helped pull the man away from the fire. Another officer quickly detained the suspect.

The victim sustained minor injuries, was treated at a hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery, local reports indicate.

The suspect now faces multiple felony charges, including assault with intent to kill and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, per the Oklahoma City Police Department. Authorities have not released any information regarding a motive for the attack.
