Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s extravagant wedding in New York City came with a hefty price tag-reportedly over $160,000-but local taxpayers won’t be footing the bill.
On July 10, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed that Swift covered the entire cost for the necessary permits and city services linked to their high-profile ceremony at Madison Square Garden.
“Taylor Swift has already paid for the permit, which was over $160,000, covering the event and the city’s response,” Mamdani said during a press briefing. The permit was finalized just days before the wedding took place.
The sizable fee accounted for street closures, traffic management, and the deployment of dozens of NYPD officers to secure the event, one of the most closely watched celebrity occasions of the year. Reports indicate about $60,000 went toward street closure permits, with the remainder covering police presence and other city resources.
The star-studded celebration drew a host of famous friends, including Gigi Hadid and Selena Gomez, along with family, while crowds of fans gathered outside Madison Square Garden hoping for a glimpse of the newlyweds.
Mayor Mamdani noted the wedding came amid a busy period for the city, which also recently hosted the New York Knicks’ first championship in 53 years, the FIFA World Cup, and festivities marking America’s 250th anniversary. “It’s a number of what are both historical and generational events,” he remarked.
Further details have emerged about the reception, reportedly featuring surprise performances by Paul McCartney, who sang the Beatles’ classic “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” and Stevie Nicks. Comedian Adam Sandler also took on the role of officiant for the ceremony.
Neither Swift nor Kelce has publicly addressed the reported costs associated with their lavish celebration.
