Jennifer Nettles Opens Up About Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Amid Buffet Backlash
Jennifer Nettles, lead singer of Sugarland, recently offered heartfelt reflections on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s high-profile wedding, which has sparked online debate over the event’s buffet choices.
Having attended the lavish ceremony at Madison Square Garden, Nettles expressed gratitude for being part of such a significant milestone in the couple’s lives. “To be a part of even a small part of their story for me was super special because, obviously, these are two people who are at the absolute top of their industry, the top of their game, the top of their craft, the top of their artistry,” she told PEOPLE.
Her remarks come in the wake of some guests and online commentators criticizing aspects of the wedding reception, particularly the buffet, which some described as “tacky.” Nettles, however, did not comment on the food or the criticism directly.
Instead, she highlighted her surprise and honor at receiving an invitation, noting her longstanding friendship with Swift. The two artists share a professional history-Taylor co-wrote and featured on Sugarland’s 2018 track “Babe.”
“It all surprised me, because of course, no one knew anything,” Nettles said about the secretive wedding plans. “I guess people had, there were leaks here and there where people were guessing, but no one knew for sure where we were going until much closer to the time.”
Reports indicate approximately 1,000 guests, including prominent figures from music, sports, and Hollywood, attended the ceremony. Notably, Adam Sandler officiated, while Taylor’s brother Austin served as her man of honor and Travis’ brother Jason as best man. The couple reportedly spent about 20 minutes each reading their vows from gold-bound books.
Reflecting on her connection with Swift, Nettles shared, “I’m so proud to have been even a little part of her story… I have such an admiration for her and what she has done.
As a songwriter, you can’t touch her. She’s the biggest artist of all time, really of our generation.”
Nettles has previously expressed her support for Swift’s personal happiness. In February 2024, she said, “Taylor is such a lovely human being, and I want her to find love just like everybody else. I am invested in that for her.”
