As Harrison Ford nears his 84th birthday on July 13, the iconic actor continues to demonstrate a level of fitness that rivals many much younger athletes. Just two days before his milestone, Ford was seen cycling through Los Angeles, showcasing his well-toned arms and abs despite the Southern California heat.

Ford’s dedication to maintaining an active lifestyle has been a consistent part of his routine for decades. Activities like cycling and tennis remain staples even as he moves through his 80s.

His commitment to physical fitness dates back to the early 1980s, when he prepared for the demanding role of Indiana Jones in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.” At that time, Ford began serious weight training with celebrity trainer Jake Steinfeld, focusing on building functional strength through a regimen of high-repetition workouts with moderate weights.

Steinfeld described their weekly workout schedule as follows: chest and triceps on Mondays and Thursdays, back and biceps on Tuesdays and Fridays, shoulders and legs midweek and Saturday, with daily abdominal exercises. Over 40 years later, Ford’s training has evolved under the guidance of trainer Jamie Milnes, who emphasizes total-body strength, mobility, and core stability. Milnes incorporates tools such as dumbbells and medicine balls to keep Ford agile and strong for both his personal life and demanding roles.

Despite his physical prowess, Ford approaches fitness primarily from a standpoint of injury prevention. “I believe in training for injury prevention more than anything else. I’m an old fart and I need to protect myself,” he told Men’s Health.

Ford’s enduring vitality is reflected in his ongoing acting projects. He recently starred as Dr.

Paul Rhoades on Apple TV+’s series Shrinking. The show’s third season premiered earlier this year and has already been renewed for a fourth, with Ford confirmed to return in his popular role.
