The Atlanta Falcons announced Sunday the passing of Cristina Ulbrich, wife of the team’s defensive coordinator, Jeff Ulbrich, following a courageous battle with cancer.
In an official statement, the Falcons expressed their heartbreak, describing Cristina as a devoted wife, mother, and friend whose strength and grace deeply impacted everyone who knew her. “She was a constant source of love and support to Jeff, their family, and the broader Falcons community,” the statement read. The organization extended its deepest condolences to Jeff, their three children-Samantha, Jax, and Jace-and all who loved Cristina, requesting privacy for the family during this difficult time.
Cristina’s absence was noted during Falcons training camp practices earlier this week, as Jeff Ulbrich was not seen on the sidelines Tuesday and Wednesday.
Jeff and Cristina’s story began in 1997 during a recruiting visit to Hawaii, marking the start of a partnership that endured through the many seasons of Ulbrich’s football career. Jeff Ulbrich joined the Falcons in 2015 as a linebackers coach and later served as defensive coordinator.
He also held coaching roles with the New York Jets, including a stint as interim head coach in 2024. Despite the challenges of his coaching journey-including the memorable 2017 Super Bowl loss with the Falcons-Ulbrich remained a respected figure in the NFL.
Before transitioning into coaching, Ulbrich enjoyed a decade-long playing career as a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers from 2000 to 2009. He began coaching with the Seattle Seahawks and worked with the UCLA Bruins as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator.
