Mexican authorities have apprehended one of the two suspects accused of fatally shooting social media influencer César Daniel Nolazco Gastélum during a livestream, officials announced Tuesday.
Jesús Alberto “N” was arrested in Puebla following coordinated intelligence efforts by the National Intelligence Center, more than three weeks after the August 4 killing in Culiacán, Sinaloa, according to Omar García Harfuch, Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection.
The arrest operation in San Andrés Cholula was met with armed resistance from three assailants. Law enforcement officers returned fire, resulting in the death of one attacker and the capture of two others, including Jesús Alberto. Authorities also confiscated firearms, ammunition, and vehicles during the raid, which involved collaboration from the Federal Attorney General’s Office, the National Guard, and the Puebla Attorney General’s Office.
The investigation remains active as officials work to identify and locate all individuals involved. García Harfuch emphasized that impunity will not be tolerated in the case.
César Daniel Nolazco Gastélum, 25, who was known online as “Cesarín,” was killed outside a fast-food restaurant in Culiacán’s Tres Ríos neighborhood. He was livestreaming with friends when two men on a motorcycle approached and opened fire. The attack was partially captured on his livestream, which continued as witnesses called for help.
While Jesús Alberto has been identified as a suspect, authorities have not disclosed specific details about his role or revealed the identity of the second suspect. Early investigative efforts, led by the Sinaloa Attorney General’s Office and later the Federal Attorney General’s Office, included reviewing images of the assailants.
Mexican media reports indicate that investigators are exploring whether the motive behind the shooting was linked to Gastélum’s social media content, though no official determination has been made.
