The identities of the couple who tragically died in a hot tub accident at their vacation villa in Spain have been made public.
Patrick Tobin, 48, originally from New Zealand, and his wife Thomasina, 51, who was from Monaghan, Ireland, were found lifeless last week at their rental property near Valencia. The couple, who lived in London’s Greenwich area, are survived by their two teenage children, who discovered them in the hot tub.
Patrick Tobin held a senior role at HCLTech, a major global technology company headquartered in India. He served as associate general manager at the firm’s London office, a position he had held since November 2021 after joining the company in 2013.
HCLTech employs over 220,000 people worldwide and specializes in software, cloud services, AI, and digital engineering. A company spokesperson expressed deep condolences to the family and friends, while respecting their privacy during this difficult time.
Thomasina Tobin, née McArdle, worked as a quantity surveyor and hailed from Castleblayney in County Monaghan. The couple had been staying at the Cap Blanc development in Cullera, near Valencia, for up to two weeks prior to the incident.
Initial investigations by local authorities included a detailed examination by homicide detectives following the discovery of marks and scratches on the victims’ bodies. However, criminal activity was quickly ruled out. Post-mortem reports indicated that both died of cardiac arrest after becoming trapped in the hot tub.

Authorities are exploring whether the hydro-massage system created a strong suction force that trapped the Tobins underwater, leading to their tragic deaths.
