At least four people have died, and a child remains critically injured following a stabbing incident in Houma, Louisiana, on Saturday night. Authorities have launched an extensive search for a man of interest linked to the case, who has a documented history of violent behavior.
Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet confirmed that detectives have identified 47-year-old Kaegan Jude Solet as a person of interest in connection with the series of stabbings that occurred in the Ashland Drive area. While Solet has not been arrested or formally charged in relation to these recent events, officials emphasized that naming him as a person of interest does not imply guilt.
Law enforcement believe Solet is likely still in the vicinity but are keeping all possibilities open. Lt.
Blake Tabor stated, “We’re using every investigative tool that we have. Our hope is that we plan to get him into custody very quickly.”
He added that there is currently no information suggesting Solet intends to flee Louisiana, though authorities are exploring all options.
Deputies responded to a call on Ashland Drive Saturday night and found a child severely wounded. As they conducted a broader search of nearby residences, investigators made the grim discovery of at least four deceased victims.
The identities of those victims, their relationship to one another, the injured child, or Solet have not been released. Investigators have also withheld details regarding the motive or whether the attacks occurred at multiple locations.
Solet’s criminal record includes multiple arrests over the past decade related to stabbing incidents, including one fatal case, though he has not been convicted. In January 2019, he was charged with the murder of Kemple Paul Scott Lovell, a homeless man found fatally stabbed in Houma. Despite an arrest prompted by an anonymous tip, insufficient evidence led a grand jury to decline indictment.
Later that same year, in December 2019, Solet was again arrested after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times and confining her in a motel room in Houma. The victim was found with several stab wounds at the Red Carpet Inn on Christmas Eve. Solet was booked on an attempted second-degree murder charge but ultimately did not face conviction.
When asked why Solet was not in custody prior to this recent incident, Lt. Tabor acknowledged the concern, stating, “I can’t tell you.
Certainly, that’s the hot question, right? Why is he out?
We’re probably just as stunned as everyone else is.” He added, “How this slipped through, I certainly do not know, but it is a question that probably needs to be answered.”
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue their efforts to locate Solet and uncover further details surrounding this tragic series of events.
