Aerosmith, who announced their retirement from touring in 2024 due to frontman Steven Tyler’s severe vocal cord injury, may be hinting at a possible return to the stage.
Earlier this week, Tyler shared an intriguing Instagram video featuring himself and rock photographer Ross Halfin attempting to complete a marquee sign at the Hollywood Bowl that read “Aerosmith & Friends.” Tyler captioned the post, “&…all will be revealed tomorrow. 7 am PT.” Before any official announcement was made, reports surfaced indicating that Tyler’s voice has recovered and is “performance-ready,” according to a source familiar with his condition.
When the promised update arrived at 7 a.m. the following day, fans were met not with a full reveal but with another lighthearted clip of Tyler and Halfin puzzling over the marquee, which displayed the partial text “ITH FRIENDS OCT 29/NOV 1.” During the video, Halfin asked, “Of all the things you miss, don’t you miss performing?”
Tyler responded warmly, “You know Ross, of all the things I miss, I miss your mind the most.” The accompanying caption hinted that there would be more information “tomorrow,” leaving fans eager but still uncertain.
Reactions to the tease were mixed, with some expressing frustration at the lack of concrete news. Comments ranged from “Woke up early for nothing” to “Well that’s annoying lol, announce it!”
and “More tomorrow! For what an announcement that’s clearly just one venue that only select fans can make it to.”
To recap, Tyler suffered a fractured larynx during a concert in September 2023, a serious injury that initially forced the band to postpone all their scheduled “PEACE OUT” shows. The band had hoped for a comeback later in 2024, but by August, they officially announced their retirement from touring, citing the impossibility of a full vocal recovery despite Tyler’s dedicated efforts and expert medical care.
Their official statement reflected the difficult decision: “Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side.
Sadly, it’s clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision-as a band of brothers-to retire from the touring stage.”
With the latest hints of a potential Hollywood Bowl performance on October 29 and November 1, fans will have to wait a little longer for definitive news about Aerosmith’s live future.
