Liz Cheney Endorses Kamala Harris for President

Washington — Liz Cheney, the former Republican representative and vocal critic of ex-President Donald Trump, has declared her intention to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election. Speaking at Duke University, Cheney emphasized the importance of not using write-in votes, especially in swing states, due to the threat she believes Trump poses to constitutional values.

Cheney, who played a pivotal role on the congressional committee investigating the Capitol riot, has previously stated that Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, should bar him from candidacy. Despite a split decision by the Colorado Supreme Court suggesting Trump be disqualified from the primary ballot over these actions, the U.S. Supreme Court later ruled that states cannot block him from the ballot based on his involvement in the riot.

In a January interview with “Face the Nation,” Cheney expressed her confidence in defeating Trump through democratic elections. The Harris-Walz 2024 campaign, led by Jen O’Malley Dillon, welcomed Cheney’s endorsement and invited Americans opposed to Trump’s divisive politics to join their cause.

The Trump campaign, asked for a response by The Associated Press, shrugged off the endorsement with spokesperson Steven Cheung questioning Cheney’s relevance.

Cheney is among a growing number of Republicans supporting Harris, including over 200 former officials from the administrations of George H.W. Bush, George W.

Bush, and Senators John McCain and Mitt Romney. They collectively advocate for moderation and a rejection of Trump in a letter asserting that democracy could be at risk under Trump’s leadership.

Their sentiments were echoed by several Republicans at the Democratic National Convention last month, including former advisors and representatives critical of Trump’s governance and character.
