FBI Raids Homes of Two Senior NYC Mayor Adams Aides

Additional Coverage:

Federal agents recently searched the residences of two top aides to New York City Mayor Eric Adams as part of an ongoing probe, according to people with knowledge of the matter. The investigators visited the Hamilton Heights home of First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright, who is in a relationship with Schools Chancellor David Banks, and the Hollis, Queens, residence of Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Phil Banks.

Mayor Adams’ chief counsel, Lisa Zornberg, emphasized that neither the mayor nor his staff are considered subjects of the investigation, stating, “As a former member of law enforcement, the mayor has consistently stressed the importance of lawful conduct by all team members.”

The FBI and a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York chose not to provide comments on the situation. According to sources, the federal agents collected electronics among other evidence, but no charges have been announced.

This investigation also saw subpoenas issued to New York Police Commissioner Edward Caban and Tim Pearson, another close adviser to Mayor Adams. Four high-ranking NYPD officials, including Caban, were also required to turn over their cell phones, all of which complied.

This investigation is the latest in a series of federal inquiries involving the homes and associates of high-level city officials. In 2014, Phil Banks was scrutinized in a separate federal investigation into NYPD corruption, though he was not charged.

Additionally, the homes of several other individuals connected to Mayor Adams, including his top campaign fundraiser and his international affairs aide, have been searched in separate instances. However, sources indicate that the current searches are not linked to previous allegations concerning the mayor accepting donations in return for political favors from Turkey.
