Nick Cannon Faces Backlash Over Comments on Dating Rules for His 15-Year-Old Twins
Nick Cannon recently sparked controversy following remarks about his approach to the dating lives of his 15-year-old twins, Moroccan and Monroe. The Masked Singer host made these comments during an appearance on The TMZ Podcast on May 2, where he openly admitted to having a “double standard” when it comes to his son and daughter dating.
Cannon, 45, shares Moroccan and Monroe with music superstar Mariah Carey. The couple married in 2008, separated in 2014, and finalized their divorce two years later. The twins are part of Nick’s large family-he is father to 12 children with six different women.
During the podcast, Nick revealed that he encourages his son Moroccan to date but is much more protective of Monroe. When asked if he allows his daughter to date as well, Nick was clear: “No, absolutely not.” He explained that while he is comfortable with his son dating, he feels a responsibility to shield his daughter from certain dangers he perceives in the dating world.
“I am more protective of my daughter because there are things out there that I have to protect my daughter from,” he said. He went on to describe how he would react if anyone harmed Monroe, saying that if a man laid hands on her, he would end up in jail for life.
Nick also shared that Monroe and he have an agreement about when she can start dating, which involves her explaining the details of her dates to him. He even joked that her twin brother Moroccan can accompany her on dates, emphasizing his firm stance against her going “one-on-one” with anyone.
Looking ahead, Nick admitted he is preparing Monroe for college and the realities of dating when she’s more independent. He expressed apprehension but said he wants to maintain open communication so she can make informed choices.
