At least 15 people were taken to hospitals Saturday following a suspected boat explosion near North Miami Beach.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, shortly after 12:30 p.m., 25 emergency units-including ocean rescue teams and personnel from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission-rushed to the scene near the Haulover Sandbar.
The Haulover Sandbar, located just west of Haulover Beach Marina, is a popular shallow boating area known for its lively gatherings and parties in North Miami Beach.
When responders arrived, they found multiple injured individuals. Due to the number and severity of the injuries, the incident was elevated to a Level 2 Mass Casualty event. A total of 15 patients were transported to nearby hospitals; their current conditions have not been released.
