Kimberly Van Der Beek, widow of actor James Van Der Beek, has shared a heartfelt reflection on her grief nearly three months after the “Dawson’s Creek” star’s death.
In an Instagram post dated May 12, Kimberly described her sorrow as beyond words. “To say I’m heartbroken is a severe understatement. Words just don’t capture what grief is,” she wrote.
James Van Der Beek passed away on February 11 at the age of 48 after battling colorectal cancer. The couple, married since 2010, had six children together, ranging in age from 4 to 15 at the time of his passing.
Accompanying her message was a series of photos featuring James and their children. Kimberly reflected on the evolving nature of her grief: “The comforts of shock have worn off.
The reality is settling in… and I miss him. We all miss him.”
She also spoke about a deepened spiritual connection amid her loss. “Yet, there is a different kind of magic in the air.
I feel him. I know him more deeply.
My conscious connection to God has deepened. The veils of the universe have thinned.
And I trust that this is the path me and my family have always been intended to walk.”
Kimberly, 44, expressed heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming support her family has received. “You all went absolutely above and beyond anything I could have ever expected in supporting us and honoring James.
I am deeply grateful. There is so much more to share here.
And in time-I will.”
In the wake of James Van Der Beek’s passing, friends established a GoFundMe campaign to assist the family financially. The fundraiser quickly gained traction, raising over $1 million within the first day and surpassing $2.8 million as of mid-May.
The campaign description highlighted the challenges the family faced: “Throughout his illness, the family faced not only emotional challenges but also significant financial strain as they did everything possible to support James and provide for his care.”
