Video shows moment 3.8 magnitude earthquake rattles Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook the Las Vegas valley Thursday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake’s epicenter was about 15 miles west of the Las Vegas valley, according to the Nevada Seismological Lab.

A traffic camera near Nellis Boulevard and Harmon Avenue in the east Las Vegas valley captured the moment the earthquake hit the valley at 1:47 p.m.

Nevada is considered one of the most seismically active states in the country, behind California and Alaska, according to the Clark County Office of Emergency Management.

The majority of earthquake injuries come from falling objects, broken glass, or people trying to run during the shaking, officials said in a news release.
