Major heat expected in Las Vegas this week

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — After a hot weekend, we are off to another warm start this week.

Headlines:

  • Heat peaks on Tuesday and Wednesday
  • 3/4 for a Major Heat Risk on Tuesday
  • Breezy winds to pick up midweek
  • Isolated thunderstorms linger in Northwest Arizona/Great Basin

Above average temperatures continue, with the hottest days of the week arriving Tuesday and Wednesday. During that time, expect a major heat risk in some areas. A major Heat Risk (Level 3 of 4 on the NWS heat risk scale) means the temperature is dangerously high and poses significant health threats. Heat of this level affects anyone without proper hydration or cooling. Afternoon highs will range between 8-12 degrees above the average of 100F this week, with breezy winds picking up again midweek.

The last of left over thunderstorms over Mohave County will continue today over higher terrain/mountains, where strong winds and dry lightning are possible. For us, Clark County is staying dry in the meantime with no chance of rain in the immediate forecast. Temperatures late in the week will start to back off, dropping down to the low 100’s and a bit of relief with overnight to early morning lows from the 80’s to the 70’s…
