Justin Smith, an aerospace quality engineer based in Yakima, has a lifelong passion for playing poker, says the World Series of Poker team, who awarded him over $550,000 in winnings. His poker beginnings started in the early 2000s after he spotted a friend of his playing poker in a casino.

Smith beat out some 16,000 competitors to make it to the $500 buy-in Colossus event, which led to his ultimate victory. The event was held Wednesday, June 10th at the Horseshoe and Paris in Las Vegas.
