LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Two wildfires northeast of Las Vegas burned into their sixth day on Monday. Both fires were ignited by lightning on Wednesday, and the largest is now 20% contained.
Winds fan wildfires to 13,500 acres northeast of Las Vegas, largest at 10% containment
The Kane Springs Fire is the larger of the two at 14,359 acres as of Monday. It’s burning short grass and brush about 17 miles southwest of the town of Caliente in Lincoln County.
The Grapevine Fire is located in the Clover Mountain Wilderness Area about 10 miles southeast of Caliente, at 13,196 acres, with no containment. The fire is burning trees and underbrush.
About 350 personnel are fighting the two fires. Firefighters are getting air support at both sites, with water and fire retardant drops helping to reduce fire intensity…
