‘Could’ve been avoided’: Family seeks accountability from Five Below after deadly Las Vegas shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The family of a Five Below employee gunned down at a store in the northwest Las Vegas valley are demanding accountability from the company as the shooter remains at large.

Brandan Lucas, 31, died on June 17. An arrest warrant was issued for David Nathaniel Vasquez, 19, in connection to the shooting at the Five Below store located near Rainbow and Lake Mead boulevards. Vasquez is facing charges of open murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a gun within a structure, and carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records.

As of this story’s publication, Clark County Detention Center records show Vasquez has not been arrested.

“I do think they definitely need to find a way to take some responsibility for the situation now, moving forward,” Shekiera Wright said of Five Below. “That’s obviously one of the worst parts of the situation is to know that in so many ways, it could’ve been avoided.”

Wright is Lucas’ cousin, and she spoke to 8 News Now on behalf of his mother, who said she was too distraught to talk in front of a camera. Lucas was her eldest of two boys.
