Missing woman found safe after overnight desert search in Shoshone

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Independence Day celebrations were cut short when an alarm sounded just after 2 pm, prompting a multi-agency search for a woman who became separated from her companion while rock hounding in a remote area south of Shoshone.

The woman, described as being in her early 20s, lost contact with her companion around 1030 hours, authorities said. The situation was considered urgent because she had no cell phone, no water, and no food provisions while in the desert heat.

Because of the remote location, the Inyo County Sheriff’s Office contacted the Nye County Sheriff’s Office for mutual aid. A large-scale search was launched using resources from Inyo County, Nye County, U.S. Park Rangers, and a U.S. Navy helicopter team…
