LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Barrel race competitor Arielle Phillips is demanding justice as her horse – Detail – continues to recover from stab wounds she received during the 2026 National Barrel Horse Association’s Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show held at the South Point Hotel and Casino back in late May.
A 17-year-old teenager who police described as a competitor is accused of stabbing Detail along with 2 other competitors’ horses.
The teenager – who 8 News Now is not identifying because she is a minor — was charged with 12 counts of willful or malicious killing, maiming, or torturing a horse and three counts of felony malicious destruction of private property valued at more than $5,000. At the time, the Clark County District Attorney’s Office announced they were going to pursue certifying the teenager as an adult.
“I know the story is never going to go away, but I don’t want it to go away because I want justice,” Phillips told 8 News Now in her first television interview since the stabbings. “But the only thing I can hope for is [her] to be tried as an adult, because that would be the best-case scenario in our situation.”…
