Henderson teacher avoids prison after arrest for inappropriate relationship

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Henderson high school teacher was sentenced to probation after he was arrested last year for having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

Cole Horton, 31, was a band teacher at Basic Academy of International Studies. Last year, officers with the Clark County School District Police Department arrested Horton and charged him with a school employee engaging in a sex act with a pupil 16 or older and contacting or attempting to contact a minor by a person of authority for sex.

According to district court records, Judge Tina Talim sentenced Horton on July 1 to two years in prison but suspended the sentence and instead imposed probation for two years…
