LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Las Vegas businesswoman was sentenced to a year and a half in prison for filing false COVID-19 employment tax credits, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.
A judge sentenced Adonia Stiles to 18 months in prison, followed by two years of supervised release. The government recommended a sentence of 40 months in prison.

Court documents and statements made in court showed that Stiles, who was a real estate agent, tax preparer, and clothing store owner, conspired with others to file false tax returns, fraudulently seeking refunds based on the employee retention credit (ERC) and sick and family leave credit.
