Over 280,000 Clark County students head back to school with major policy changes

LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — More than 280,000 Clark County School District students return to class Monday, and several changes are in effect before they ever reach the classroom.

New district-wide start times

For the first time, CCSD is implementing new district-wide start times. Middle school students begin at 7:30 a.m., high school students at 8:30 a.m., and elementary students at 9:15 a.m.

Stricter school zone enforcement

Drivers should expect increased enforcement in school zones this year. A new Nevada law that took effect July 1 doubles penalties for traffic violations in school zones.

A first offense now carries a fine of $250 to $1,000. A second offense can cost drivers $1,000 to $1,500.
