According to Nevada State Police, road closures were set up at State Route 147 and Pabco Drive, with a second closure point at State Route 564 and North Shore Drive. The agency advised the public to avoid the area entirely and use alternate routes while crews responded to the fatal collision. The closure location sits at a geographically significant point along the corridor. Pabco Drive meets SR 147 roughly seven miles east of Interstate 515 at an unsigned desert junction near Frenchman Mountain, according to Nevada Landmarks, where the roadway narrows from a multi-lane urban arterial into a two-lane mountain pass. Per Wikipedia, SR 147 runs roughly 14.25 miles from North Las Vegas eastward through Sunrise Manor and Frenchman Mountain before reaching the boundary of the national recreation area.
Because SR 147 and SR 564, also known as Lake Mead Parkway, serve as the two primary western vehicular gateways into Lake Mead National Recreation Area via Northshore and Lakeshore Roads, shutting down both simultaneously effectively severed public access to the park’s northern sections from the west, according to AARoads.
