LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The Henderson City Council approved a $275,000 settlement with the family of a 12-year-old boy killed during a 2020 standoff between Henderson police and a man who shot and killed two women, according to documents obtained by 8 News Now.
During Tuesday’s city council meeting, the council approved a settlement agreement with the Hawatmeh family of $275,000, almost six years after 12-year-old Joseph Hawatmeh was killed inside a car during an standoff between police and 38-year-old Jason Neo Bourne.

According to the lawsuit filed by Iehab Hawatmeh, Dianne Hawatmeh had made a complaint to the apartment complex about noise from Bourne’s apartment before the shooting.
On Nov. 3, 2020, Dianne and Yasmeen Hawatmeh returned to their apartment near Stephanie Street and Wigwam Parkway when Bourne then confronted them. Before reaching their parking spot, Bourne “abruptly motioned for Dianne to stop the Escalade,” according to the lawsuit.

“Dianne immediately parked the Escalade and hurried along with Yasmeen up the stairs to the second floor of Building 13 of the complex, where the Hawatmeh apartment was located. As they climbed the stairs, Dianne and Yasmeen noticed Bourne running after them, causing Dianne and Yasmeen to run to the Hawatmeh Apartment in fear,” the lawsuit said.
Bourne then kicked in the door, shooting and killing Dianne Reem Hawatmeh, 38, and Veronica Muniz, 33, in the apartment. Dianne Hawatmeh’s teenage daughter, Yasmeen, was also shot…
