LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Southwest winds have started to pick up across the region and will continue to beef up through this afternoon as this cold front remains north of us and slides across Tonopah. This will switch wind direction to the northwest after the show ends tonight at 7 to 8 pm.
For the Vegas valley, we’ve already seen gusts over 20-35+mph with speeds of 25-30 mph for the early afternoon. The strongest winds will be outside Clark County, with Esmeralda and Nye counties. Blowing dust and debris will have an impact, as drivers should be prepared for strong crosswinds today.

This front is also pushing out a nice plume of moisture to the north of us. The chance of precipitation will mostly stay confined to Lincoln and Nye counties. A high wind warning is still in effect with afternoon highs in the low 90s, just a few degrees cooler than Saturday. Winds will remain breezy through Monday, but thankfully not as strong, except in the Colorado River valley, where stronger lingering winds will stick around.
There is a nice temperature drop that will follow for Monday, as well as a drop in highs of 9-12 degrees cooler. This will be brief as temperatures start to soar back in the 90s by Thursday and through next weekend…
