Clark County School District police continue to find guns on campuses as students prepare for summer break

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — This is the last week for students at the Clark County School District as they prepare to start the summer break.

But looking at the district’s firearm confiscation report, police continue to find guns on students despite employing several tools.

According to the confiscation report, CCSD police seized a total of 38 firearms from Aug. 11, 2025, to May 8 of this year. Twenty-three of those guns were found on campus.

Three guns were seized at Canyon Springs High School during a four-week span. CCSD police found a student with a gun on March 31, and then on April 28, officers discovered both a gun and a long rifle.

“Obviously, a tragedy was avoided, but at what cost?” Logan Gifford, a graduate of Canyon Springs H.S., said. “Because if we don’t act soon enough, then there could be a tragedy that does happen.”

Gifford attended an alumni event at Canyon Springs H.S. last month, and days later, a rifle was discovered. He applauded the district’s efforts to crack down on violence, which includes requiring students to wear ID lanyards, but believes more can be done…
