Hurricane Katrina hit Miami Springs on the evening of August 25, 2005. It was a Category 1 hurricane with 75 MPH maximum sustained winds.
The first half of the storm was not particularly impressive. It felt more like a tropical storm than a hurricane.
When the eye of the storm passed over Miami Springs, many of the neighbors came out to the street to experience the eerie calm that evening. We were all surprised at what little damage had occurred so far. It was both fun to experience the eye of the storm, but also a little bit worrisome as we knew the second half of the storm could be different…
