A couple walking near Española Way and Collins Avenue in Miami Beach was surrounded by a group of juveniles Thursday night, spat on and robbed after refusing to buy candy the teens were selling, according to police. At least one teen is now in custody following the confrontation, which left the woman’s vision blurred by sand thrown in her face and sent her boyfriend running to a nearby steakhouse for help.
According to a police incident document cited by WSVN, a group of juveniles approached the victim and her boyfriend near 16th Street and Collins Avenue and solicited candy for sale. When the couple declined, the report states the teens insulted and threatened them, then surrounded the pair and threatened to harm them before spitting at them. Ìt’s unclear exactly how many juveniles were involved, though the woman later described being encircled by five people.
“You spit in my face though, huh?” the woman said during the confrontation, per the police document referenced in the same report. One attacker then threw sand in her face, according to the incident document, blurring her vision as the situation escalated. Her boyfriend ran to a nearby steakhouse to get help while the group closed in.
Purse Wrestled Away as Victim Fled
As the confrontation intensified, a subject wrestled the woman’s purse away from her before fleeing the scene, the police document states. “I’m surrounded by five [expletive]. What the [expletive] am I supposed to do? Me and my girlfriend surrounded by five,” the victim said, according to the report cited by the station.
