Human remains connected to 1988 Florida cold case identified

MONROE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Human remains connected to an unsolved case from 1988 were identified on Thursday, nearly four decades after their discovery in Florida.

On May 4, 1988, the body of an unidentified man was found in North Key Largo.

Using advanced genetic and DNA methods, the man has now been confirmed to be 61-year-old Alfonso James Spikes of Miami, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
