Man flying to Cuba tells AA gate agent at MIA: No lithium batteries, ‘but I have a bomb,’ cops say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies say a man flying to Cuba confirmed with an American Airlines gate agent at Miami International Airport Monday morning that he didn’t have any laptop batteries in his bag ― but what he claimed he did have ensured that he would not make it to the island.

A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office arrest report states that the agent was asking Yoel Guevara-Crespo, 33, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, “the standard security questions” as he was about to board the flight to Camagüey, Cuba.

One of those, deputies said, was “Do you have any lithium batteries or incendiary devices in the bag?”…
