HONOLULU (KHON2) — Legendary Matsumoto Shave Ice was served in California for the first time ever on June 6 and 7. The Haleiwa-based stand partnered with iconic clothing brand Ryoko Rain for a special two-day event in Irvine.
“I think our first customer tried showing up at 3 a.m. in the morning, and the Irvine Spectrum turned them away,” said Garrett James, founder and creative director of Ryoko Rain.
Lines wrapped around the building as people waited hours for the chance to taste the shave ice and buy the collab.
“Some people were saying that people were lining up six to seven hours just to get our shave ice and to look at the collection. So it was amazing,” said Remy Matsumoto, general manager of Matsumoto Shave Ice. “We were very blown away by the response to our event and just how many people came to support us.”…
