Honolulu police sergeant recognized for outstanding mental health crisis leadership

HONOLULU (Island News) – A Honolulu Police Department (HPD) Sergeant was honored by the Mental Health of America of Hawaii for his outstanding leadership in the department’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT).

Thirteen-year Honolulu Police Department veteran Sgt. Corbin Matsumoto was recognized as the 2026 Outstanding Government Leader. Currently heading the CIT program, Sgt. Matsumoto collaborates with community groups and mental health experts to provide support for individuals facing homelessness, behavioral health emergencies, or mental health challenges.
