Cause of death revealed for beloved Hawaiian monk seal

HONOLULU (KHON2) — NOAA said a Hawaiian monk seal who as found dead on May 6 in Nanakuli died of toxoplasmosis.

It is an infection caused by a parasite that spreads through contact with contaminated cat feces.

Monk seal RH32, better known as Ka‘ale, was last seen in March with no signs of illness.
