Pearl Harbor hosted a very different kind of milestone Friday, when 13-year-old violinist Sabrina Patel arrived to complete the 44th stop in her quest to perform the national anthem in all 50 states. Her set at the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center also included Ode to Joy and God Bless America.
Patel, who is from Burlington, North Carolina, performed the national anthem at the historic Honolulu site, according to Hawaii News Now. She told the station that she hopes her music gives people a sense of patriotism, hope and pride, a notably earnest mission for a teenager whose summer itinerary looks more like a touring musician’s than a typical student’s.
From North Carolina To 44 States
Patel has played violin since she was 4, and the journey has taken her to major sporting events involving teams including the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavericks and Detroit Pistons.
