HALAWA, Hawaii (Island News) — Authorities opened an investigation into an attack at the Halawa Correctional Facility that led to the death of an inmate on Tuesday.
The Hawaii Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) confirmed that 55-year-old Godwyn (also known as Denise) Foster, an inmate at the Halawa Correctional Facility, died following an assault at the prison on Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026. He was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital for his critical injuries where he was later pronounced dead.
Foster was sentenced to five years in prison in May 2023 for theft and unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, both class C felonies. He took a plea deal for a 2022 car theft case. He also had a long history of forgery in which he was found guilty of nearly 30 counts a decade before…
